Day 5- my letter to a soldier
Everybody has heard of Superman, Batman, even Catwoman. They defeat evil with ease and fly through the skies with enough time to make it home for dinner. Even though those are fictional characters, we have true heros in life. They are you guys; the soldiers. You keep the evil away from our country. You leave your families and all of your belongings to protect the innocent people of your country. Now maybe you dont get to come home every night to catch Saturday Night Live or The Jay Lenno Show and eat some pizza, but that kind of makes you even more heroic. I wanted to understand more about why you soldiers were called soldiers instead of heros. To some you are already heros of course, but Superman gets called a hero everyday and for goodness sakes he isnt even real. The dictionary deffinition of hero is a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. If thats not a man who goes across the seas in the middle of Hell to save our country and our people; then the dictionary must be incorrect. If i could ask any of the soldiers that fight for our country why they do it, it would be truely amazing. Who wants to leave their safe and cozy home to go sleep in tents and have shells shot at you? Not many. We could easily send the people who are in jail for life over to fight our battles. Leave the innocent with their families. But you guys volunteer to risk your life for the lives of the millions of Americans. Its amazing. Thats a hero. Another question i would ask if i got the chance; how does it feel when people diss America or diss the army? In fact i saw a person on a corner of the street the other day holding an American flag with a big red X through it. But there are people dying for you? How would that make you feel? The next time you feel like our country isnt on the right track or our soldiers arent doing your job, think about the families that dont get the chance to tell there husbands, fathers, or sons about that because they lost their life fighting for the ungrateful. Granted sometimes things dont go your way, its not right to say. Period.
I would like to thank you all for all the courage and determination you have had to go and fight for our country. I dont think you will ever really realize how grateful the millions of Americans are. I am only one girl; im not speaking for the entire country. I would like to thank all of your families, for giving you up and having to struggle on their own because they know you made the right choice and you are helping strangers out. I would like to thank the people who didnt get the chance to come back and see their families. Your memories to them are truely cherished. You will be remembered as a Superman or Batman in many people's minds. You fought very hard for what you believe in and you are in a much better place now. A place with peace and perfect harmony. I would like to thank God for putting all of these wonderful people on Earth. Without him we wouldnt have the heros we have today. And if he feels like a soldier has had his time, he will take him away from the horrors of war into his place. He will help him heal and help him watch over all of his family and friends. There are so many people affected by one single man or woman going to war. I want to thank you all again. Know your doing the right thing. God bless you heros.
What a great idea! I love the balance of images, film, and writing.
